Saudi Pavilion, Blue Zone, COP 27

On Friday, November 11, CORDAP will co-host the event ‘Nature-Based Solutions and the Role of Coral Reefs: Opportunities for Ambitious Action in the MENA and Beyond‘ at COP27. This event is organized in partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy and King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre (KAPSARC) and will be held in the Saudi Pavilion, located in the Blue Zone.

COP 27

Science has established beyond doubt that the window for action is closing rapidly. In November 2022, Egypt will host the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, with a view to building on previous successes and paving the way for future ambition. This is a golden opportunity for all stakeholders to rise to the occasion and tackle effectively the global challenge of climate change.

About this event

This event aims to open a dialogue about nature-based solutions and coral reefs to help bring them to the agenda for COP 28. Coral reefs play an increasingly important role in supporting livelihoods and the economy in the Arabian region. Yet, the window to save the corals is closing and we must act now. What will it take to secure a future for corals in the Arabian Seas?

In this event, we will address:

  1. Nature-based solutions: Opportunities for ambitious action in the MENA and beyond
  2. What will it take to secure a future for corals in the warm Arabian Seas?
  3. How can these efforts inform efforts to conserve coral reefs elsewhere?

This joint event would raise awareness of how Coral reefs play an increasingly important role in supporting livelihoods and the economy in the region, the urgent need for action and the need to raise our ambition to conserve all corals, not leaving any behind.
