CORDAP was selected as the recipient of the 2025 Mirpuri Foundation Ocean Award. The award, which includes a €10,000 prize, honours excellence in marine conservation, scientific innovation, and circular economy principles.
The G20 Coral Research & Development Accelerator Platform (CORDAP) is honoured to be named the recipient of the 2025 Mirpuri Foundation Ocean Award, in recognition of our exceptional leadership and global impact in advancing coral reef research and conservation.
Launched by the G20 in 2020, CORDAP brings together leading scientists, innovators, and stakeholders from around the world to accelerate the development of solutions aimed at safeguarding one of the most critical and threatened marine ecosystems on Earth—coral reefs. With rising ocean temperatures and intensifying marine heatwaves putting corals at increasing risk, CORDAP has emerged as a key player in the global response to this growing environmental crisis.
The award, which includes a €10,000 prize, honours excellence in marine conservation, scientific innovation, and circular economy principles. The specific CORDAP initiative that will receive the award will remain confidential until the official prize-giving ceremony, scheduled for July 6, 2025, at the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy Awards Ceremony in Cascais, Portugal.
Dr. Paulo Mirpuri, President of the Mirpuri Foundation, said:
“The Mirpuri Foundation is honoured to recognise CORDAP for its bold and collaborative approach to ocean conservation. At a time when coral reefs face unprecedented threats, this award celebrates leadership and innovation that can shape a more resilient future for our oceans.”
Now in its fifth year, the Mirpuri Foundation Ocean Award continues to spotlight pioneering efforts in marine protection and circular economy principles. Previous winners have included initiatives tackling plastic waste, promoting sustainable tourism, and empowering coastal communities in conservation and resource management.
Through this award, the Mirpuri Foundation reaffirms its mission to support impactful environmental initiatives and to inspire global action to protect marine ecosystems.
CORDAP is grateful for this recognition and proud to contribute to the global effort to protect and restore coral reefs. We look forward to celebrating this honour with the Mirpuri Foundation and fellow ocean advocates next month in Cascais.
